Jarte is a word processor that uses the WordPad engine built in Windows, which makes the application very light (its installer weighs approximately 3 Mb). The tool supports such popular extensions as RTF, DOC and DOCX, so the documents you create with it are fully compatible with Microsoft Word. Moreover, the application lets you export to HTML and PDF.
The application has three different layouts: minimal, compact and classic. However, I regret saying that I didn’t like any of them. If I were to choose one of these layouts, I’d prefer the minimal layout because it’s simpler to use and you can find everything under the corresponding menu item. Perhaps I’m influenced by long years using Word, but, frankly speaking, the other two layouts would certainly take me some time before I feel comfortable with them.
In terms of available features, Jarte is absolutely more powerful than WordPad. In fact, it could be compared to Microsoft Word. Along with the standard document formatting, this word processor supports opening various documents in separate tabs, checking spelling and looking up words in a dictionary. Moreover, it lets you insert pictures and hyperlinks and even take screenshots. I loved the clip list, which allows you to reuse the most recent clipboard clips.
All in all, Jarte has the advantage of being both light and powerful. It’s also a cost-effective alternative to other expensive products, so it’s ideal for home users. However, to tell you the truth, I don’t like its interface at all. However, as this is just a matter of taste, I won’t discourage you from giving it a try.
